Numero Group are releasing a compilation titled Omnibus Vol.1, a collection of 45 7″ funk and soul singles from across the United States. The collection is, as Numero puts it “a tangled mess of loose ends”, which could not be drawn into other LP or CD projects. It includes disappearing acts like Pat Stallworth (who recorded one single with news anchor Bill Jacocks in 1974), lives cut short (Curtis Liggins, who died in a car crash in 1972), and sartorial disagreements (The Intentions disbanded soon after forming after a fight over outfits).
The idea for Omnibus started life almost ten years ago, a ramshackle collection of obscure and lost 45s imagined as the first Numero release. However, that morphed into the Eccentric Soul series and the original idea was shelved.
